CoD2 GENERAL STRIKE!

"We request here and now that either Activision or Infinty Ward make an official announcement regarding their future support for the Call of Duty series of games on or before 16th December 2005.

The statement should include the following:

1. When will you include an Anti-Cheat system for COD2?
2. When you you release your 1st patch for COD2?
3. What will it include?
4. What other plans have you for the support of the Call of Duty Games?
5. What will you do to ensure this situation does not arise again?

The members of [tv] have voted to participate in a first of its kind 24 hour online gamer strike. This Saturday, December 17th our CoD/CoD:UO & CoD2 servers will be locked in protest of Activision/IW's lack of support for the CoD gaming community and perceived disregard for the satisfaction of their loyal customers.

Game franchises like CoD are built on the reputation of the developer/producers and their work with the preceding titles. Many copies of CoD2 were purchased based solely on the strength of CoD/CoD:UO... and Activision/IW has decided to cash in on their reputation and turn a quality game into a cash cow at our expense.

On that day (Dec 17th) [tv]'s MoH:AA server will be back on the air. Please join us there and lend your support to this strike by boycotting playing of CoD/CoD:UO/CoD2 that day.

Re: CoD2 GENERAL STRIKE!

As much as I love CoD I would even boycott it for a week or more to allow the word to spread further, Us players in the CoD community deserve better for our money. Great Job Fred !
Looking for MoH:AA Disk Now <--------Don Juan.

Re: CoD2 GENERAL STRIKE!

At last report the count of locked servers was reaching 1,200 And according to the official announcement the strike really isn't supposed to start until 6pm tonight (our servers will lock at 6pm CST). Many people locked them down at 12:01 this morning. So pretty good turn out for something that hasn't officially started in the US yet!

here's a link to IW master server list filtered for servers with the CCA mark on them. So you can get a real time idea of how many servers are participating.

http://stats.callofduty.com/index.php?search_name=cca

At the time I'm looking there are 8717 servers (this is across all CoD games/all version) and nearly 1,200 on strike, about 13~14%.

Re: CoD2 GENERAL STRIKE!

keep seeing remarks where they have already made their money but when you look at their financial for this quarter it is lower, Could that be because a lot of people think as many of my friends do ? They WONT buy it until it is updated and patched with anti-cheat software.
Had I known they were going to do this then I would have waited myself.

Re: CoD2 GENERAL STRIKE!

sadly, I think that might be true... they already have our money so screw 'em! And that's exactly the attitude that EA had that allowed Activision to swoop in and grab a big part of the FPS market share, especially in the WW2 genera. I remember the height of MoH when everybody was raving about the game and looking forward to patches and expansions... only to be disappointed  by lack luster support from EA. Everybody wanted to believe that Spearhead would finally provide everything the community had been begging for. It fell horribly flat. By the time Breakthrough came along... nobody was fooled and the franchise was dead.

But we heard rumors that the old MoH developers were disappointed with EA's support of them, which tied their hands in supporting us... and found a new home at Activision were they assured us they would finally be able to make the game both they and us wanted. And we got CoD, which was really good. UO made it better... but now CoD2 has stopped the forward progress and set the game back in time. Why they would decide not to include advancements added in patches and the expansion into their shiny new version 2.0... blows my mind. Well, actually it doesn't... xBox 360 explains it all. The xBox doesn't need anti-cheat, it doesn't need http redirect to deal with large mod downloads, it doesn't need the bug fixes that the PC crowd does. You just buy it, it runs on out dated locked in hardware until xBox 3 comes out and then sits in your closet. You pay $60 for it and play it for 3 weeks and then buy the next $60 xBox game... it's all about turnover... their is no profit in "replay-ability".

BTW, me and JJ were out at Best Buy Friday and had a look at CoD2 on the xBox 360.... it looks like crap... even on a $2,000 plasma monitor. The edges are as jagged as a broken beer bottle and the textures are flatter than Kate Moss. It's MoH with brighter lighting. And do I have to remind people MoH is like 5 years old. Video games used to drive hardware innovation, game developers used to innovate, until these big companies found a more profitable marketing model in the console... and locked us into medicoracy. My 4 year old computer renders CoD2 better than a brand new xBox?!?! And the kid at gamestop told me the problem with PCs is you have to upgrade them everytime a new game comes out, consoles are better, LOL! Screw xBox and the BS "They're selling for $1,200 on eBay" hype. People killed each other for Tickle me Elmo a few years back and that was a shit toy too... just like xBox is a shit TOY!

So for me... the real hope for this little show of solidarity, was that it might get enough press in the places that gamers go for game info. And that it might make a little crack in that blind brand loyalty that gamers have towards the developers and publishers (who are more than happy to ride that to the bank) and think about what they are really buying into. I'm hoping that gamers are smart enough to not fall of the marketing... smart enough to tell the publishers and developers that if they want to make money selling games, they need to make GOOD games, that gamers want to play! i'm hoping WE wont let them turn this into another over comercialized mdeia market like Music and Movies have become... where they can produce crap, slap togetter a witty comercial and we all flock to buy it.

Re: CoD2 GENERAL STRIKE!

hmmm, in that thread on iwnation I see that a 'lex' from after-hourz is commenting like they were in support of the strike, yet when I logged on last night there were a bunch of after-hourz servers up and running. gotta like the assholes that jump on the bandwagon.
