Voting machine 'hacker' runs for congress

have a read of this article. A guy who testified to congress that he was approached by an incumbent congressman to create a hack that would allow the undetected manipulation of votes in electronic voting machines... is now going to run against that same congressman!

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=32243

This creates a very interesting situation. As a candidate, the hacker has more ability to question and contest the outcome of an election he is part of than the public at mass does. And there is no way to deny that there is a possibility that he may have the ability to manipulate the vote in his favor. And since his opponent allegedly tried to hire this hacker for exactly that ability, the congressman may be in a position to intimately know that this guy has the ability to manipulate the vote firsthand. If the congressman knows he has the ability, he would naturally be inclined to question any election results as well... which depending on the circumstances could further implicate him in vote manipulation in the previous election! A mess like that has a strong potential to draw media attention to the issue. Now that's playing politics like a game of chess!

Re: Voting machine 'hacker' runs for congress

well you would have to think that this hacker's whole point in doing this would be to call attention to the issue. Which there definitely needs to be more people paying attention to it. Beyond that who knows what kind of a congressman the guy would be. I don't think it's a simple good or bad situation. Then again, is the other guy any better? I mean he’s suspected of attempting to subvert the people’s right to vote and fix a congressional election. That kind of suggests he's not the picture of honesty. Either way you have to admire the brilliance of the move the hacker is making.

Re: Voting machine 'hacker' runs for congress

is it really? I guess it kind of is. Two people that are probably crooks running for office. But the strategy of the way this hacker guy is calling the congressman to the plate on the voting fraud issue seems unique to me. I don't recall an elected official accused of some fraud being put on the spot by a potential co-conspirator running against him. Guess it's just me, but I thought it was a pretty ingenious (and amusing) way to back the guy into the corner on the issue.
